About Us

In recent years the government have initiated various policies to encourage the public to use public transport instead of our cars, particularly in congested areas.  Brighton & Hove City Council have and are pro-actively improving public transport by creating quality partnerships and providing information to create the informed traveller.

The Transport Control Centre and our ‘citytransport.org.uk’ aims to begin the process of providing that information to enable the ‘informed traveller’ to make a choice of how they enter our city.  New computers systems and software play a major role in providing this information.

COMET

Comet is a system that links our car parking information and traffic control systems into one user friendly interface.  This allows the transport control centre to have real time information on congestion in the city, the current capacity of our city car parks, current incidents and forthcoming events.  This information can be displayed via the ‘citytransport.org.uk’ web site and allow motorists to create an informed choice.

Variable Message Signs (VMS)

Brighton & Hove City Council have installed two types of VMS at various strategic points around the city, which are controlled from the Traffic Control Centre.  The Traffic Information VMS provides information to motorists regarding incidents and congestion in the city.  The Car Parking VMS details the current car parking spaces in the city car parks.
